Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Scheme

Print Enquire

Iplex’s experience in project delivery assisted in the success of meeting the customers’ requirements in delivering water supply to the Wimmera Mallee region two years ahead of program.

Project Overview

The Wimmera Mallee region received its water supply via a complex earthen channel network. The Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project (WMPP) replaced approximately 17,500km of open, earthen channels with a 8,800km piped water distribution system, providing reticulated water to some 9,000 rural properties and 96 towns over an area that comprises almost 10% of Victoria.

Iplex supplied the plastic pipes for Australia’s largest rural water infrastructure project. The contract involved more than 8,000km of pipeline to replace inefficient irrigation channels. A 75km portion of the pipeline also traversed through the environmentally sensitive Grampians National Park.

Partnering with construction company, Mitchell Water, Iplex supplied GRP, PVC-U, Rhino® PVC-M and POLIplex® PE100 products ranging in diameters from DN50 through to DN575 to the half-billion-dollar project.

Iplex’s significant production capacity meant supply of product could be kept up to all laying crews, which were laying up to 12km of pipe per day. The client required the project to be completed in less than five years and with the collaboration of manufacture, project delivery, customer and installation crew the project was delivered two years ahead of program and under budget.
