Features & Benefits

Applications

Iplex’s range of Electrical and Telecommunications PVC-U Conduits are designed to protect cables in a range of buried and above ground installations. PVC-U is the most commonly used material for electrical conduits due to its lightweight, ease of assembly and non-conductivity.

The delivery of conduit pipes, electrical pits and accessories as a package offers time and cost saving advantages for project managers and contractors. The Iplex range of PVC-U conduits are designed to protect and carry both fibre optic and other telecommunication cables in a wide range of buried and underground installations.

For trenchless or direct burial applications Iplex can supply polyethylene conduit in coils or large drums.

Certifications & Approvals

Technical Standards & Identification

To ensure site safety and compliance with AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 2053, Iplex provides colour-coded conduit solutions for easy identification across all electrical and telco applications:

  • Orange Electrical Conduit: The industry standard for heavy duty and light duty buried electrical installations. Our range includes high-impact PVC conduit from 20mm up to 200mm for utility and power protection.
  • Grey Electrical Conduit (Medium Duty): Specifically designed for above-ground protection, available in conduit sizes ranging from 16mm to 50mm.
  • White Conduit: Dedicated for data and telecommunications pathways.
  • Large Diameter Solutions: For major civil works, we supply electrical conduit pipe in 80mm to 200mm sizes, available with foam core construction.

Compliance & Sustainable PVC

Iplex is committed to transparency and sustainability in the manufacturing of PVC conduits:

  • Best Environmental Practice (BEP PVC): Certified to AS/NZS 1260, allowing projects to claim positive PVC Credit Points under the GBCA’s Green Star Rating Scheme.
  • Verified EPDs: We provide third-party certified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for our PVC-U and Polyethylene ranges, covering the full life-cycle impact.
  • Quality Assured: Manufactured under a third-party accredited ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • PipeBack Recycling Program: To support a circular economy, Iplex leads the PipeBack program, a dedicated PVC recycling service to re-purpose materials and divert them from landfill.

Environmental credentials

Iplex PVC-U cable conduit pipe is certified to conform to the Best Environmental Practice PVC (BEP PVC) provisions of AS/NZS 1260.

The Green Building Council of Australia (GCBA) has defined the standards for best practice environmental performance for PVC manufacturing, against which Iplex’s processes have been audited by an independent certifying body. These permit users of Iplex conduits to claim positive PVC Credit Points under the GBCA’s Green Star Rating Scheme.

Learn more about best environmental practice PVC

Iplex Pipelines has published a verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) on our range of PVC-U Non-pressure Pipes and Polyethylene pipes. EPDs are third-party certified documents based on ISO 14025 and EN 15804 Standards that communicate transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of a product or service. Specifically, product declarations include information on the environmental impact of raw material acquisition, energy use and efficiency, the composition of materials and chemical substances, emissions to air, soil and water and waste generation.

Standards & approvals

Iplex Electrical and Telecommunications PVC-U Cable Conduits pipe is manufactured to the Australian Product Standard under a third-party accredited Quality Management System (QMS) complying with ISO 9001.

Referenced Australian electrical and telecommunications product standards include:

  • AS/NZS 2053 (various parts)
  • AS 4702

Installation & Handling

Handling and storage

During transportation, conduit must be supported in a secure manner to prevent damage. Storage areas provided for conduit shall-
(a) be a flat surface free of any sharp stone or projection, which may cause damage or localised deformation and
(b) be suitable for the use of the proposed loading and unloading without the risk of accidental damage

Storage outdoors may be extended by covering conduits and fittings with an appropriate material such as hessian or white 70% shade cloth. Black plastic sheeting may cause unacceptable heat build-up and should not be used.

Find out more information about handling and storage in the Electrical and Telecommunication Technical Guide.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I encase PVC electrical conduit in concrete?

Yes. Refer to AS/NZ2032

Can electrical conduit pipe be glued?

Yes. PVC-U electrical conduits can be glued with the appropriate Iplex solvent cement. PE electrical conduits are not able to be glued.

Can I purchase telecommunication pits from Iplex?

Yes. Iplex has a comprehensive range of pits and related accessories.

Can I connect PVC-U conduit to polyethylene coils?

Yes. Iplex has a number of adaptors to suit different size pipe.

What are the standard electrical conduit sizes available?

Iplex manufactures PVC conduit in a wide range of diameters, typically from 16mm to 200mm. Please refer to our Electrical & Telecommunications Technical Guide for specific internal and external dimensions to ensure compliance with your site requirements.

When should I use orange electrical conduit vs. grey?

Selection is governed by AS/NZS 3000. Generally, orange electrical conduit is required for buried installations (Heavy Duty), while grey conduit is used for above-ground protection (Medium Duty) due to its UV stabilised properties.
