Applications

Applications

Our wide range of Fernco couplings and bushes are suitable for installation in a broad spectrum of pipeline applications, ensuring secure and flexible connections across various pipe materials and diameters. They are commonly used for:

  • Joining plain-ended pipes: ideal for creating secure connections between pipes with un-lipped ends.
  • Connecting dissimilar pipeline materials: Fernco couplings and bushes can be used to connect different piping systems across virtually any pipe material.
  • Pipeline repair & maintenance: facilitates efficient fixes and upkeep of existing pipe networks.
  • Connecting varied pipe lengths: perfect for joining short or cut sections of pipe.
  • Post-construction connections: enables adding new sections to established pipelines after initial construction.
  • Lateral reconnection: useful for re-establishing connections to renovated sewer lines.
  • Accommodating differing diameters: when paired with bushes, they can seamlessly connect pipes of varying sizes.

Advantages

Features Benefits
Resistant to chemicals, fungus, sewer gases and ultraviolet rays. Longer service life and reduced maintenance costs.
Made from molded EPDM rubber body. Forms a permanent airtight and watertight seal.
Two 316 grade stainless steel clamp bands. Easy to fit and install; can be tightened onto pipes using basic tools (nut driver and torque wrench) for quick installation.
Allows for repair of existing pipe systems by replacing short sections of pipe. Cost-effective, efficient solution, minimising disruption and wastage.
Complies with AS/NZS 4327-1995 – Metal-banded flexible couplings for low-pressure applications. Guarantees adherence to Australian and New Zealand standards.
Wide range of diameters. Including couplings, bushes and multibushes covering a wide range pipe diameters for various applications.

Installation & Testing

Installation & Testing

Installation of Fernco couplings is straightforward:

  1. Slide the coupling over the pipe ends to be joined.
  2. Position the coupling centrally over the joint.
  3. Tighten the stainless steel clamps evenly to the specified torque (typically 60 inch-lbs).

Ensure that the pipes are properly aligned and that the coupling is securely fastened to prevent leaks.

FAQ

How do Fernco Multibushes work?

The Fernco Multibush is a foldable bush that adapts to three thicknesses and thus suiting multiple connection scenarios.

Available as a DN100, DN150 and DN200. Each size gives the user the ability to connect any two pipe materials of the same nominal diameter, thus reducing different configurations of stock required and helping to solve unforeseen connection requirements.

What is the operating temperature range for Fernco drainage couplings?

Fernco drainage couplings are designed to perform reliably across a wide temperature range, these EPDM couplings are rated for:

  • Continuous use: –50 °C to +80 °C
  • Intermittent use: Up to +100 °C, such as during high-temperature cleaning processes.

Can Fernco couplings be used for both pressure and non-pressure applications?

Fernco couplings are designed for non-pressure applications, such as drainage and sewer systems. They are not suitable for pressurized systems, including potable water lines. For pressurized applications, consider using couplings specifically rated for such conditions.
