Since its launch in 2022, Pipeback has helped divert significant volumes of recyclable material from landfills.
Pipeback provides a practical way to close the loop on materials, reduce the need for raw resource extraction, and improve environmental outcomes on construction projects. By working together with contractors and suppliers, the programme supports a more sustainable approach to infrastructure delivery.
Why recycling PVC, PE and timber matters
Construction projects generate large amounts of plastic offcuts, packaging, and waste. Without recycling, these materials typically end up in landfill, contributing to a negative environmental impact.
In Australia, an estimated 50,000–70,000 tonnes of recyclable PVC is sent to landfill every year. Uncontaminated PVC pipes are 100% recyclable, and PE pipes can also be repurposed.

What Can Be Recycled Through Pipeback?
We recycle:
- Clean PVC pressure and non-pressure pipes, offcuts and fittings
- PE pipes, offcuts and fittings made to AS4130 standards
We don’t recycle:
- Products embedded rubber rings, coppers, nails, screws, marking tapes/straps or metal attachments
- Contaminated or unclean PVC and PE pipes
- Fibreglass-wrapped fittings
- General site waste

Is PVC recyclable? What happens to the recycled PVC?
PVC is 100% recyclable. Recycled material is processed and reused in manufacturing.
Where can I drop off PVC recycling material?
Pipeback returns can be arranged through participating Iplex sites. Select your preferred location when completing the Return Request Form. Iplex will then review and confirm the return arrangements.
