Applications

Applications

The EziPit® is a polypropylene inspection and maintenance structure (Maintenance Shaft, Maintenance Chamber or Maintenance Hole) designed for buried gravity sewer applications. This easy-to-install sewer pit system complements our plastic pipeline systems and is designed with practical inspection shafts and maintenance holes for easy surveying and upkeep.

An EziPit sewer pit inspection system consists of a base, a single wall corrugated riser, a reducing cone for maintenance holes and a range of covers designed for trafficable and non-trafficable areas. This design allows a safe sewer access point from the surface.

Sewer Access Shafts, Chambers and Maintenance Holes are used (where practicable) at every:

  • Change of alignment
  • Junction
  • Change in the size of a sewer

In addition, the sewer pits are used at specified intervals for inspection and maintenance. National Sewer Standards and Codes specify requirements for the location and spacing of Inspection Shafts and Sewer Access Chambers.

Advantages

Polypropylene offers several advantages in gravity sewer pits, including excellent resistance to sulphuric acid corrosion, low weight, and high stiffness. These properties create a lightweight yet durable structure that withstands long term exposure to hydrogen sulphide gas commonly found in sewer environments.

The overall benefits of the EziPit® system include:

Features Benefits
Flexibility The base includes adjustable pipe sockets which allow the pipe grade or angle to be adjusted up to 7.5o in any direction in the trench.
Long Service Life Polypropylene base and riser for chemical resistance in sewer environments.
Robust & Flexible Riser Flexible corrugated sewer riser accommodates ground movement and dynamic traffic loads without cracking or breaking. The riser is easily cut on-site for height adjustment.
In-ground Performance Fully resistant to external loads up to a depth of 6 metres and water tight up to 5 metres.
Ease of Installation Light-weight modular components for ease of handling in deep trenching.
Safety Performance Can be assembled and backfilled at the same time as the sewer pipe, reducing costs in plant, labour and the risks associated with open excavation.
Resistance to Acid Attack Its polypropylene construction makes the EziPit resistant to acid attack, which can be common in gravity and septic sewer maintenance systems

Polypropylene Sewer Maintenance Structures - EziPit’s Advantages

Corrosion Resistance

  • PP is resistant to chemical attack, in sewer environments.
  • Polypropylene is impervious to hydrogen sulphide gas and the resulting sulphuric acid that forms in wet sewer conditions. This eliminates acid corrosion and ensures the long-term structural integrity of the EziPit.
  • Lowers maintenance cost and frequency.

EziPit Ensures Your Sewer Maintenance System Remains Ingress Free

  • The EziPit system is constructed with water-tight, sealed connections, resisting infiltration of groundwater and tree roots.

EziPit PP Sewer Maintenance Shafts Are Lightweight and Easy to Install

  • Being lightweight and modular, PP components can be easily handled, transported and installed without the need for heavy lifting equipment.
  • This reduces installation costs and avoids OH&S risks associated with deep trenching and manual handling.
  • Concrete sewer maintenance structures are extremely heavy, requiring specialised lifting machinery, which can result in longer installation times.

EziPit Sewer Maintenance Systems Offer Resilience Against Ground Movement

  • The flexibility of polypropylene makes the sewer pit structure less susceptible to joint separation and damage with ground movement, vibration and seismic activity.

Overall Longer Service Life and Lower Lifecycle Cost

  • The corrosion resistant nature of PP increases service life and decreases maintenance costs.
  • The high chemical resistance and structural stability of PP can translate to a long service life and lower maintenance requirements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep can you bury the EziPit® sewer pit system?

The EziPit can be buried to a maximum installation depth of 6m with a 5m water table and a minimum depth of 1m to 1.2m depending on the structure used. Refer to the EZIpit Technical Guide for further information.

Why is the EziPit sewer pit riser corrugated?

The EziPit's corrugated riser provides flexibility and strength. The single wall corrugated riser can deflect vertically and absorb static loads as well as dynamic traffic loads without cracking or breaking. The corrugations also key into the compacted embedment soil and restrain the EziPit from uplift in water charged ground.

Can the EziPit® be installed in a roadway?

Yes. The EziPit is designed to be installed on roadways with the EziPit Top Hat Class D cover arrangement. The EziPit cover arrangement complies with AS3996 Access covers and grates.

Will the EziPit® resist flotation when buried in water charged ground?

Yes, the corrugated wall will key into the compacted embedment material resisting any up thrust. Tests in the field have been successfully conducted, confirming the unit does not float.

Can you use SewerMax® pipe with the EziPit®?

Yes, but only with pipe sizes DN225 and DN300. SewerMax spigot x socket pipe adaptors allow direct connection of SewerMax pipe with the EziPit base.

Can the EziPit® be supplied with an internal or external drop structure?

Yes. We can supply the EziPit Riser Coupling for external drops with our EziPit 425 Maintenance Structure and 600 Maintenance Chamber. The Riser Couplings allow up to 4 external drops via the riser for each EziPit Structure. We also have prefabricated Riser Couplings for an internal or external drop for the EziPit 1000 Maintenance Hole.

Are the EziPit Top Hat frames and covers gas-tight?

Yes, the Top Hat frames and covers are gastight and watertight in accordance with AS 3996 Access covers and grates.

Why does the EziPit® system have a cap and lid?

The cap and lid was designed to prevent personnel entry.

Can you install an access ladder in the shaft?

No, The EziPit® is a sewer inspection and maintenance chamber and not a manhole. Therefore it has been designed to prevent personnel entry into the confined space. The cap and shaft do allow inspection with CCTV and blockage clearance with water jets.

Do I need a crane to install the EziPit®?

No. The EziPit is modular and is made up of lightweight components designed for ease of handling during installation.

Is the EziPit® suitable for stormwater applications?

Yes, the EziPit is suitable for stormwater drainage applications with PVC DWV smooth wall pipes and DN225 or DN300 BlackMax pipes with adaptors. The minimum depth to invert should be greater than 1.2m.

Why does the EziPit Top Hat for the 425 Maintenance Structure and 600 Maintenance Chamber have a 300mm internal ring?

The EZIpit Frame was designed with a 300mm ring for safety reasons. This restriction prevents falls from heights and improves safety throughout your sewage system.

Is the EZIpit resistant to tree roots?

The EZIpit riser is one continuous length with no joints eliminating any potential points for root intrusion.

The rubber ring joints connecting the riser to the base, and pipes to the base are also resistant to root intrusion. The joints have been designed and tested to AS/NZS 1260 (PVC-U pipes and fittings for drain, waste, and vent applications) and AS/NZS 5065 (Polyethylene and polypropylene pipes and fittings for drainage and sewerage applications) for joint tightness.
